| Tabbing Changes |
|
There are changes to tab size and location, paper weight and letter-size dimensions. Letter-size booklets are mail pieces with a bound edge consisting of at least two staples or another method of joining the pages together (i.e.; perfect bound, press-glued). The new standards require three 1.5 inch non-perforated tabs, two on the leading edge and one on the trailing edge. The maximum size for a booklet is being reduced to 6 x 10.5 inches. Paper weight changes vary from 50-70 lb depending on the design of the mail piece. Currently there are no changes to the tabbing regulations for self-mailers. A self-mailer with the opening at the top only needs one tab. A self-mailer is generally one continuous sheet folded to letter-size, but it can also be multiple pages or sheets folded as long as there is no binding method used. When designing any letter-size mail piece that involves folding, the final fold must at the bottom and the first fold on the leading edge. |
